学术写作技巧之路标词(Signposting Language)

不管是在课堂中听课（Lecture），口语的讨论中（Discussion） 还是在写作业（Assignment）中 ---- 都是要用一些单词或者短语去帮助你连接或者转换你的观点，指出你的观点和你的思路走向之间的关系，帮助读者清楚地理解你的论点。

路标词（Signposting Language) 可以被用在段落的第一句话来表明你这一段在整个文章中论证（Argumentation) 中的作用，或者用在段落中间来进一步发展你的论证。

之前我们介绍过一些指标语的使用了，这次我们来看看哪些中国学生很容易用错或者不经常用但是在学术讨论中很重要的的路标词（Signposting Language)

介绍你论证中的观点

Introduce a sequence of points in your argument

e.g.

To begin with, this essay will identify the causes of this situation.

These factors will subsequentlybe analysed in detail.

参照文章中的其他部分

Cross-reference to other parts of the essay

e.g.

As noted previously, a number of scholars have offered a different explanation.

This development is composed of a number of stages, as discussed above.

重点放在细节上

Focus on specifics in more detail

e.g.

Such examples, and in particularthose from the last five years, support the findings of recent research.

引入比较或进一步的观点来支持你的论点

To introduce a comparison or further point to support your argument

e.g.

Compared withthe first example, the second seems unconvincing.

This scholar’s argument is likewiseflawed.

Sheep have likewisebeen raised in Piauhy, but there is no market for mutton.

Deep cleaning is now required, whereasin the past street cleaners were able to keep gutters and footpaths clean.

重新措辞或解释

To rephrase or explain

There is only one negative example, namely, that of the government.

The model is not universal.To be more precise, it is not applicable in seven per cent of the above cases

总结 Conclusion

我们今天讲了指标语的国外听力口语写作中都有着不可忽视的作用，在我们的口语讨论和学术写作中合适而又准确的使用指标语才是最重要的。

如果我们只是简单的用‘Also’、‘Further’、‘In addition’之类的词去简单罗列我们的观点而非用不一样的指标语去引导读者或者听众我们的观点的变化，我们的论证（Argumentation) 可能更多的是描述这个观点而非进行辨证性的讨论。 总之，我们的指标语的使用是为了帮助我们更好的表达自己的观点，这是最重要的，一定不可以滥用或者错用。
