Do you think that the top students are usually successful in life？Give examples to support your view.

Well, there is no denying the fact that some top students in class do have excellent career. However, in my opinion, I am strongly opposed to the idea that top students are usually successful in life.

I think success has nothing to do with their high scores. High scores only provide you with a better opportunity to have a job interview. It is the practical skills that matter. Let me take Minhong Yu as an example. As we all know, he, a chairman of New Oriental School, is a legendary figure in the education world. His company is currently the largest comprehensive educational company in China. But Minhong Yu was not among the top students in his class when he was learning. But now he becomes the boss of so many classmates who used to have higher grades than him. And of course, he is much successful than his classmates.

Why? From my point of view, it is because those high scores don’t mean high competence. High scores just mean you are good at doing tests, but don’t mean you have the practical skills which are needed in a job. Though not having high grades, Minhong Yu knows how to manage a company well and knows how to recruit talents who can work for him loyally.

From what I have mentioned above, we can see that top students are not necessarily successful in life. But schools and society as a whole

often value a student just by his or her performance in the subjects on an examination. So I hope in the future, more and more parents and teachers will have some change and don’t pay too much attention to the grades.
